About the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers was founded by Rodrigo Garcia and other civil engineers at the city of Los Angeles, California, in 1974. SHPE has grown to become the largest professional organization for Hispanics in engineering fields, with over 13,000 members and 286 student and professional chapters across the globe. SHPE’s vision is “a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers”, and pursues four core values: familia (mutual responsibility and positive challenge), service (morally and professionally, to communities, people, and the organizations members work for), education (formal education and professional development), and resilience (optimism and adaptation through career and life).
